The Ontario Cup basketball tournament for girls under 12 is returning to Ottawa from April 17-19.
This year’s tournament will host seven divisions across four locations compared to last year’s five locations. This new location format is not only decreasing our carbon footprint, but helping to grow the community of Eastern Ontario basketball.
The 3-day tournament by Ontario Basketball is hosted by the Eastern Ontario Basketball Association and sponsored by Ottawa Tourism. By bringing over 1,000 athletes, parents, family, coaches, and refs to the nation’s capital, Ottawa Tourism’s sponsorship of the event is crucial for the development of the tournament and the growth of tourism in Ottawa.
The four locations that will host games are Algonquin College, Longfields-Davidson Heights Secondary School, Sir Robert Borden High School, and Woodroffe High School.
Algonquin College will host Division one and two. It is located across College Square, which includes several possible places to eat, including Crumble Cookie, Osmows, Chances R restaurant, and a Loblaws. It is also an 11 minute drive from the Bayshore Shopping Centre, a popular spot for both luxury, and everyday purchases.
Long-fields-Davidson Heights Secondary School will host divisions three and four. It is located in the neighbourhood of Barrhaven, and nearby Kelsey’s Original Roadhouse, Shawarma Heaven, and a Starbucks.
Sir Robert Borden High School is located in Nepean between the Bayshore Shopping Centre and College Square.
Woodroffe High School is located in the Lincoln Heights Neighbourhood. Nearby is the Carlington Shopping Centre and the newly renovated Britannia Park and Beach.
Merchandise and the iconic Ontario Cup sweaters will be available for purchase at both the Algonquin College and Longfields-Davidson locations.
Divisions one to five will play their first games on Friday at 4:30pm. Division six and seven will play their first games on Saturday at 9am. Full schedules for all locations and divisions can be found here.
Hotels across the city are expecting an increase in guests for this weekend. Recommended and preferred accommodations can be found here, including an interactive map showing where your tournament location is compared to the nearby hotels. Please note rooms cannot be guaranteed after the cut-off date.
Last year’s U12 winner was East York Basketball, who took a championship win over the Ottawa South Basketball Organization.
Please join Ottawa Basketball Network and the Eastern Ontario Basketball Association and come to a game this weekend.
